Wasps at the eaves, or coming out of the ground.

A steady line of wasps going in and out of one spot means a nest. Paper wasps build the open comb under eaves and patio covers. Yellowjackets nest in the ground, in a block wall, or under a roof tile, and by August the colony is big and short-tempered. Honey bees are different. We do not kill them; we refer a live-removal beekeeper.

How to tell

Three things that point to wasps rather than something else.
  • Wasps flying in and out of one hole in the lawn, a gap under the roof tile, or a spot in the eaves.
  • An open, papery comb under the patio cover, the eaves, or inside the barbecue lid.
  • Wasps at your drinks and plates in late summer. That is yellowjackets foraging from a nest nearby.

What we do about it

  1. Step 1: Identify

    Yellowjacket, paper wasp, or honey bee. It changes everything. Bees get a live-removal referral, not a treatment.

  2. Step 2: Treat

    The nest is treated at dusk when everyone is home, and removed where we can reach it. Same day if you call before noon.

  3. Step 3: Prevent
